The Yukon Orienteering Association is very excited to be hosting the 2018 NAOC and COC in Whitehorse, Yukon. This marks the first time the NAOC will be held north of 60! The NAOC sprint, middle and long races will be world ranking events. The NAOC races will be IOF sanctioned events, and the COC races will be Orienteering Canada sanctioned Canada Cup races. All races will be on new or fully revised maps.
The Yukon Orienteering Association has previously hosted numerous major events, and in doing so has shown the orienteering community that we choose incredible terrain, produce high quality maps, and hold very well organized events.

Race Overview
All of the orienteering will be in the vicinity of Whitehorse, a city of about 25,000 on the banks of the Yukon River. Surrounded by vast wilderness, Whitehorse is a modern city with the amenities you would find in a much larger centre. The Yukon is known for its wilderness landscapes, wildlife, fascinating history, and friendly people.
The Whitehorse area offers a variety of terrain and forest types. Whitehorse is located in the boreal forest consisting predominantly of black spruce. Meadows, open pine forest, and aspen glades are also common. The terrain is dominated by glacial deposits with the resulting eskers, pothole lakes, kame-kettle topography, and streams. Some map areas are very technical.
